That is all.

When friends and family heard that I would be marrying a military man, many said to me, "How exciting!"

And you know what?

It really is sometimes.

We get to move every three years to a new place (or if you're us- we get to live in three different states in one calendar year). Think of all the travel opportunities! But I'm here to tell you the other side of the coin. And that is- the boredom.

Am I alone in this?

My other half is, well, my other half. He entertains me, provides companionship- He's my lobster (FRIENDS reference). So, when he's gone, I'm incredibly bored. It matters very little that I saved up many of my recorded shows on television for such occasions or that I have a host of great books to read. Sure, I have the baby to keep me occupied, but when he does something cute and there's no one here to share it with, I have to turn to Twitter, Facebook, or phone calls with friends. And really? No one cares like J would.

Sigh.

I just miss him.

And I'm bored.

"If Boredom Kills...

... then cultivating curiosity heals." These are the words Dr. Kashdan, who recently wrote for Psychology Today, about the latest research on boredom.

Of course, this article caught my eye because I was mindlessly browsing the net for something, anything that would interest me. I may claim to be bored several times throughout the week, but really I don't mean it. I suppose it would be more accurate for me to say that I'm feeling less productive and as society tells us, productivity is a positive thing! Am I bored, though? Nah. It's easy for me to get cabin fever up here in these arctic temps, but thanks to technology, books, hobbies, and my darn dear puppy, I've got plenty to do.

As a child, I remember my parents asking me if I was bored. If I was, I rarely told them for two reasons:

  1. They might use that as an excuse to put me to work.

  2. Or because I was one of those weird kids who worried whether I'd hurt my parents' feelings. I didn't want that (not that it was their sole responsibility to keep me entertained) so I'd say "No, I'm having fun."

I probably was having a good time. I'm one of those people who are easily entertained! I don't need constant conversation. I don't have to always be on the go. I've always been somewhat of a homebody. I guess that's the introvert coming out in me, but I am usually fine with myself because I happen to think I'm pretty darn cool :)

Back to the article, though...Did you read it?! Eek! I don't want you to die of boredom, which is why I feel like it's my DUTY to keep you informed of my day to day existence. I feel led to do my part in preventing you from perishing away at your office because no one thought to write silly blogs for your own enjoyment. I won't let you down! I'm here for you! (hehe)

Top ways we prevent boredom in our household (in pictures):

(No, not playing hide-n-seek. Painting nails!)

(Sleeping. This one is highly recommended as I mentioned here.)

(Making something old new once more!)

and last but not least...

 (Dancing!)

Now, get to livin'...Go have fun because I want to keep you around :)

Yummy Those Gummies

There went two hours of my life that I'll never get back. I had to get enrolled in the insurance program with the army today so I went over to the hospital on post to take care of that. Jordan dropped me off and it took all of 15 minutes to accomplish. We estimated that it would take much longer. He had a meeting so I sat in the entry way and ate a whole bag of gummy worms out of boredom. I did listen to a sweet podcast on my iphone about our heavenly home so at least my mind was partly occupied for awhile.

I took a photo of the scarf I'm attempting for the MissImagination forum I'm a part of. Here it is (still incomplete)-

I guess I'm proud of it. It's nice to attempt new activities. Hopefully I'll get better at it as I spend more time knitting. Well, there's not much new with me. Tomorrow is the big day when we can finally go over to our new place and start measuring and moving in. Friday will probably be when we (ahem.."I") actually start moving most of our belongings over. Jordan will be working that day. I don't mind, of course, it gives me something to do. Before I left the apartment today I started playing with my webcam- taking photos- because I was so bored...

Still in my robe :) Hehe This is what happens when he leaves for work. I need to get involved in some volunteer work around Fairbanks. Anyone know of anything worthwhile? I googled some organizations that I might try out a few hours a week. I know I really need to get a real job, as well. I took a break from looking today, though. I keep getting texts asking if I'm still interested in the job that I applied for and if so to call 1-800... It's driving me bonkers. Not much new to report on my end.
