the story of the BB cream

Once upon a time, my friend and I were sitting down for a drink or four at Chili's discussing life, love, and all the people from our high school graduating class who had recently been arrested. In between deep conversations and belly laughs we heard an interruption. "Excuse me," he said. "Can I ask you a question?" We looked over to find two young men both having beer, both dressed in t-shirts. I'm sure I gave the one who spoke the awkward smile-slash-questioning-look that so often crosses my face before I have any time to mask my true feelings. "Sure"I tell him. He proceeds to ask us how old we are. Typical. When I respond with the truth (27), he says, "Wow. Not what I guessed." He briefly goes on to say that he thought we were much younger (score!). But as men so often do, he ruined his compliment by continuing to talk. He pointed to my friend and said, "I had you at 21 and your friend at 23." Ouch. I then said, "Listen Jackwagon, that's no way to talk to a lady." Just kidding. I actually got under the bar and cried. That's not true either. 

I did go out the next week to buy some BB cream. Now, that's a true story, y'all. Apparently, I need to wear more makeup. I hardly ever put it on and when I do, I do it sparingly. I think it's that time, though. Time to grow up. Time to accept the fact that I'm not twenty one and I don't look it! Aging is for the birds.

Aging Well

Listen. I'm not gettin' any younger.

Every time I snap a photo of myself I'm somewhat appalled by my face the lines on my face. They're crinkly laugh lines, stress scars, or something. I'm not a day over 22, though. I swear it.

Ok, I'm 26. I should have taken the time when I was younger to wash my face at night and moisturize it like a boss. But I didn't. Luckily, I have good genes, though.

 This is my grandmother (Baby K's great-grandmother) holding my nephew Aiden a few years ago. Isn't she beautiful? I once asked her what the secret was to staying so youthful looking and my grandfather replied, "Moisturizer!" She didn't even have to say anything. He knew. I guess she has made it a point to take care of her skin from the beginning of their marriage.

Well, I haven't been so diligent. In fact, I only washed my face in the shower before. If I did put on makeup, I never took it off properly. Bad girl!

But then I got a facial the other day and someone put a little makeup on me and I realized- it's not too late!

I looked and felt pretty good afterward. My skin didn't feel as old. Maybe I could keep this up.

I'm happy to report that I've been washing my face in the morning and at night, moisturizing and using Mary Kay-



For seven whole days. Who am I right now? ;)

Saturday Stuff

There are times when the pull to write is drawing me like a magnet to my keyboard yet I don't have much to report. That sounds so formal, doesn't it? You all know by now that I like coming here- to my online journal. It's rarely something I feel as if I should do. Where's the fun in that? It's something I want to do.

Today was a breath of fresh air and it's not over yet!

My clan woke up early, too early for a Saturday. By 6am, K's bottle was in hand and I was sipping on my kryptonite (coffee). I never looked back once the 5:30 wake up call happened- it's just something I accept. Baby K has been the best kid recently. The past few weeks I've finally started to feel as if I actually have a happy baby now. His schedule is so much better and he's getting more sleep at night and during the day. He has been a complete joy! After rereading that last comment, I feel like I could have been a great teacher.

Moving on.

Friday was heavenly. I woke up and hopped in the car for my Valentine's Day present cash-in. I had a massage that was too short, a facial that was also too short, and all sorts of other pampering that I just didn't deserve. Boy, did I soak it all up, though. I felt ahhhmazing.

Until they did my makeup.

Then I felt like a teenager going to prom. I looked ridiculous with that much makeup on and in a biker shirt and blue jeans no less. I just don't normally wear that much so I felt as if it were over the top, but several people assured me that it wasn't. Either way, I was not a fan of feeling like I had a mask on all day.



I had a very pleasing day, but I couldn't wait to get home to my two men. I don't think I've ever been away from K that long.

Tonight, we're having our first ever craw fish boil! I sure hope Captain J knows what he's doing because there will likely be another blogger in our midst. Hopefully, it won't be a flop. We like to wing these things, ya know? Sometimes it works out, sometimes it doesn't. It's always a party, though!

You're so vain

I feel like a woman again! My mom expressed her fear and worry that her girl was quickly leaning towards more manly activities such as hiking, camping, fishing, and going to the shooting range. She told me before I arrived in TN that it was "time for an intervention." When I got off the plane, the first thing I did was go shopping with Mom. That was quick, huh? I couldn't help it; I was having withdrawals. My girly-ness sunk in even further when I arrived home and remembered all the fabulous clothes I had left behind. For three glorious weeks, I wasn't going to wear one stitch of flannel or big bulky boots. I would break out my heels, paint some lipstick on my lips, and feel pretty again! Lemme tell ya, it feels good :)

I'd like to tell you how great a product is in this post as well, but I hesitate because of one of my favs, Sandra Bullock. Isn't she the coolest? I just want to throw this out there- I'm definitely, completely, totally Team Bullock BUT...This product is, well, amazing-

Kat Von D, the tattooed missy who apparently caught the eye of Sandra's man, has made the best concealer ever. You may already know that she created this makeup as a way to cover up tattoos, but I love it because it also hides those pesky skin problems that come along with crazy hormones and adult acne. I think I paid 25 bucks for this bottle, but it is worth it. A little goes a long way!

After two weeks of shopping, I feel a little more prepared for Fall. I pieced together this fun, comfortable look with help from Forever 21, Target, and Maurice's. I decided I hope I'm pregnant in the fall so I can wear threads like the ones below just so I can be comfy and cute. Every girl needs one item of clothing that is animal print, right?!

*I wouldn't be surprised if this is my only makeup/fashion post ever. I'll be back in my element in no time and I'm sure my husband will remind me that he likes me best in loungin' clothes and devoid of all makeup. Man, he's crazy but I sure miss him.
