I thought I'd give this a go today if anyone would like to link up. Show me what you're up to this fine Sunday. Snap a photo or use your words- I don't care. I'm just nosy!

Our clan is whippin' up some football food in preparation for the Steeler's game tonight. Also? We're cheering on little man as he takes his first ever independent steps. He just stood up and started walking earlier! I cried a little. Sweet little one is growing up!

Go Steelers! (and Raiders!)

Reunited and it feels so good!

This past weekend has been a refreshment for me- something I needed. Like chocolate tends to do, the last few days cheered me considerably. Captain J, Baby K and I spent the weekend savoring our last few days of his leave together and getting reacquainted with friends. I know I've mentioned it before, but I'm so excited to report that one of my gal pals I met while we were stationed at Ft. Wainwright is finally here.

Isn't she lovely?

Her and her husband joined the Captain and I for some Cuban sandwiches and red beans and rice at our place on Friday evening. It was fun to catch up. We're looking forward to many more fun times in good ole Louisiana with them.

Soon I'll tell you about the famous Beauregard Parish Watermelon Festival, but for now I'm going to grab Chinese takeout and sit down for some Sunday Night True Blood. We'll chat soon.

so close

I almost, so close, borderline surprised J for Father's Day. I am NEVER able to get him a present that he likes that he doesn't find out about before hand. I either a) get him something he doesn't want/thinks is dumb or b) he guesses what I got him. It's infuriating. Father's Day snuck up on me which is why I still haven't slipped our other fathers' presents in the mail yet. Oops. Anyway, his package containing his t-shirt from a hole-in-the-wall bar in Alaska that he always regretted not buying arrived just in time on Saturday and I was pleased as peaches until he grabbed the package from the mail box and said, "What did you get me, a t-shirt?" YOU HAVE GOT TO BE KIDDING ME. Ugh. Anyway, when he opened it on Sunday, he was still surprised that I remembered so it's sort of a half win.

Did you have a good weekend? Mine was pretty good. Captain J has been home to help out with the kid so I've been able to relax a little and read a lot. It has been so nice to have him home and see him interact and help out with Baby K so much over the past few days.

Well, I've got too much to do to sit around and blog today. I've got to clean the house and pack for our beach trip we're leaving on in the next few days. Not to mention, we're getting some professional photos done of sweet baby K later on, too. Yay! Speaking of sweet, cute little babies...

There's a little poll over on the right hand side of the page under all the followers boxes where you can vote on whether you think Baby #2 is a girl or a boy. Y'all were right last time! I'm counting on you.

Now, if anyone would like to guest post while I'm gone, do let me know and I'll pencil ya in. I'd love to have you.

Happy Monday!

Makeover

Happy Saturday to you! I trust the weekend has found you well. I'm feeling wonderful after a few days of terrible. Modern medicine is a glorious thing, y'all, Yesterday afternoon, Jenn and I drove to a neighboring town for a little pampering- pedicure style. My toes are now freshly painted Barbie pink and the soles of my feet are smooth as a criminal. Or, ya know...something that's really smooth.

That picture is for all you toe creepers out there. I used to get so many hits on my blog from people searching for "foot fetish". Weirdos. But to each their own.

Tonight we're throwing together a little cookout- Louisiana style! This means, I can't really stay and chat. I've got to clean! But I wanted to stop in and give a quick shoutout to Laura from Between the Lines! She whipped me up a new look for my space here and I think it's pretty darn cute (If you're viewing via a Reader, come on over and check it out!). If you're looking for a new and affordable look for your blog, might I suggest Between the Lines Blog Design! Love it.

Thanks, Laura!

I'm Alive- Barely.

It's rare that I go all weekend without so much as a peep on here so I thought I'd tell you, that, in fact, I AM ALIVE. Barely. This weekend has been crazy busy, exciting, terrifying, and humorous among other things. Oh, but that's a post for another day.

My clan teamed up with her clan and had a yard sale. We walked away with a little over $500.00 for the weekend so we were pleased. It was much more than we expected and it felt good to have someone pay to take our crap away. One man's crap is another man's treasure, right? Well, that's the gist anyway.

Baby K is as cute as ever and has been such a big boy lately. I'm so proud. Can you believe he's almost 8 months? I can't.

I'm going to go enjoy the rest of my Sunday. I hope you all have had a great weekend!

P.S.- I swear I bathe him every single night, but he always looks like I haven't cleaned him in at least a month. Such a little boy!

weekend

This is the ole 'I didn't do much this weekend but I'm going to tell you about it anyway' post. Ye be warned!

On Friday, Baby K and I met up with a friend and her daughter for coffee at a local joint. This town where we currently reside has slim pickin's in the coffee department (read: every department) so imagine my utter joy at finding a place with a huge list of specialty coffees! I want to try every single fall inspired cup! Here are some photos from our little date:

(Whoa...that picture is too big)

(There...that's better)

We had such a good time. It was nice to get out of the house and talk to another adult. Captain J just isn't very good at girl talk. Aside from K getting milk drunk and puking all over my dress, we had a lovely outing. Ha!

On Saturday, we watched football until it was time to have dinner. We ate over at said friend's house with her and her husband. Again, this was fun, too until Baby K screamed, "TAKE ME HOME!" which sounded more like "WAAAAAA AAAA AAAHHH!"

This young un has quite a set of lungs on him.

Finally, Sunday we were able to take Baby K to church. We had refrained from doing so up until this point because as my great grandmother used to say, "That's a lot of fellowship to wash off your hands". We were afraid that people would be touching him, breathing in his face, or (*gasp) wanting to hold him. I went prepared with hand sanitizer for the really persistant ones, but everyone was on their best behavior. They all welcomed him to church from a distance which made this new mommy very thankful. I really like that church.

Afterwards, we came home to watch some more football. Unfortunately, our pro team didn't do so hot. It. got. ugly.

But at least we were cute in our gameday gear:

And now we've arrived at Monday. I've been cleaning the house, entirely sleep deprived all day. The highlight was when I heard the *honk honk of the mail lady and saw that my new cloth diapers had arrived. Woo hoo!

It's weird what adults get excited about, huh?

We've had some other excitement around here, too. Yesterday the pups got to come inside for awhile and hang out with the baby because J had a situation outside to attend to. A poisonous water mockasin was lurking by the porch and we can't have that, can we? Captain J took care of it (with a shotgun).

We also had a rather huge spider running around the hallway the other night. But after a double (ok, maybe tripple) tap, that sucker was history.

There's lots of creepy, crawly things in Louisiana.

But we like it here.
