On top of the world

I was just chatting with a sweet friend on Twitter whose husband is getting ready to head home from his deployment. It brought back all sorts of memories and emotions for me. I'm just so excited for her (and everyone else whose spouse fiiiiiiinally gets back to the States)! I took a walk down Memory Lane and found this.

Just my man and me- On top of the world.

Well, almost.

This was on R&R, a little over the half way mark of the deployment. We were in Tennessee, our place that will always be "home" no matter where we live.

Good times.

(I'm linking up with Monica for the first time today! )

Blah, Blah, I love my husband, Blah

Today was one of those days I'll look back on when I'm 82 and want to remember something happy. Or maybe I won't remember a thing at that age. If I do, I hope I remember today.

Nothing too special happened- just a lot of ordinary moments that came together to create one of those rare almost perfect days. Glory to God.

I don't want to describe it because it'll sound to you like: blah, blah, friends and blah, blah sweet child, and blah, blah, I love my husband, blah.

You get the picture.

Instead I'll give you a few photos and leave you with that.

Happy Tuesday, y'all!

Crawfish Boil

First, you gather your friends.

Next, you have to take all these suckers out of the bag-

Pretty icky step. But I filed this under "man's work" so it was okay.

Once they're good and purged, clean them one by one.

Yes, you have to touch them. Well, YOU don't have to if you don't want. I manned up, though. Just look at how I exude confidence in doing so-

At this point, we had to play full court press. We each had our eye on our man (crawfish) and weren't going to let them crawl out to freedom. No, no. They were well on their way to being eaten.

The sound of them scrambling around in these makeshift buckets was eerie and g-ross!

I don't remember much of the steps as Baby K was just waking up from his nap and I was tending to him, but you can look them up here to create your own crawfish boil!

All I know is the pups had fun-

Duke and CoCo came to visit!

And we definitely had a good time, too. Took the time to pose for a family photo, too-

By the nights end we had peeled 35 lbs of crawfish. And we had bright red displays as proof.

Those ugly little creatures are delish.

How did you spend your Saturday?

Project 365- Week 9

Sunday February 26, 2012: Captain J was still out in the field with long hours. To combat my frustration, Baby K and I decided to take a walk around outside and pick Daddy some flowers for when he did get to come home.

Monday February 27, 2012: I started reading book two of the Hunger Games. I'm super pumped to have a break to read something of my choice!

Tuesday February 28, 2012: On Tuesday, I put K Baby to work using his hammer.

Wednesday February 29, 2012 Leap Day! Our extra day this year was spent out in the sun with Captain J! We each took turns holding the babe on the hammock while the other picked up pine cones in the yard. It was rather hot and Baby K kept soaking his onesie so we let his baby soft skin meet the sun finally.

Thursday, March 1, 2012: I cheated on my blog this day with my trusty ole journal! It had been too long.

Friday, March 2, 2012 I had the best girl day- complete with spa services and a new hair do!

Saturday, March 3, 2012 We had a nice little Saturday. This is me on our way to breakfast-

Did you document your week in photos? If so, link up with Laura!

Saturday Stuff

There are times when the pull to write is drawing me like a magnet to my keyboard yet I don't have much to report. That sounds so formal, doesn't it? You all know by now that I like coming here- to my online journal. It's rarely something I feel as if I should do. Where's the fun in that? It's something I want to do.

Today was a breath of fresh air and it's not over yet!

My clan woke up early, too early for a Saturday. By 6am, K's bottle was in hand and I was sipping on my kryptonite (coffee). I never looked back once the 5:30 wake up call happened- it's just something I accept. Baby K has been the best kid recently. The past few weeks I've finally started to feel as if I actually have a happy baby now. His schedule is so much better and he's getting more sleep at night and during the day. He has been a complete joy! After rereading that last comment, I feel like I could have been a great teacher.

Moving on.

Friday was heavenly. I woke up and hopped in the car for my Valentine's Day present cash-in. I had a massage that was too short, a facial that was also too short, and all sorts of other pampering that I just didn't deserve. Boy, did I soak it all up, though. I felt ahhhmazing.

Until they did my makeup.

Then I felt like a teenager going to prom. I looked ridiculous with that much makeup on and in a biker shirt and blue jeans no less. I just don't normally wear that much so I felt as if it were over the top, but several people assured me that it wasn't. Either way, I was not a fan of feeling like I had a mask on all day.

I had a very pleasing day, but I couldn't wait to get home to my two men. I don't think I've ever been away from K that long.

Tonight, we're having our first ever craw fish boil! I sure hope Captain J knows what he's doing because there will likely be another blogger in our midst. Hopefully, it won't be a flop. We like to wing these things, ya know? Sometimes it works out, sometimes it doesn't. It's always a party, though!

Happy Saturday to you, my friend.

Girly Day!

If you're reading this in real time, it's the a.m. and I'm on my way to get a massage. And a facial. And a manicure. And a hairdo. Oh, and a tan, too. My husband is the greatest! I'm so excited about my girly day. Baby K and Captain J are off doing man things like mowing the yard napping. I hope they have a good day together. I suspect I'll be just fine by my lonesome! ;)

Have fun, boys!

Murdererabilia

I was perusing the Internet as I so often do ;) and I came across this topic-

Murdererabilia

Have you heard about this? Apparently, people have begun to profit off of selling personal items, letters, hair, artwork, et cetera from high profile killers to people who are interested in owning something from these convicted murderers.

Excuse my Appalachia, but WHAT IN THE SAM HILL?

Ha.

But really?

What goes through someone's mind to think about starting such a business? And worse, are they selling the items to people who idolize the murderer? It's all very disturbing to me.

Eric Gein owns Serial Killers Ink and operates the business out of his Florida home. He explains the process by saying that you first must "build a friendship" with the killer so that they may provide these types of memorabilia for the third party business.

On one hand, I think- Okay, Gein wants to make money. Who doesn't? And, people collect all kinds of stuff. But the more sensible (and sensitive!) side of me thinks that there is something really creepy about all of this and it gives me the heebie jeebies.

Gein told ABC, "I don't feel badly at all. I am desensitized to the crimes. When I'm in contact with these guys, I'm not thinking, 'Wow. This guy destroyed 30 families.' I'm thinking, 'This guy can make me money.' It may sound brass and cold but that's the reality for me."

CREEP. EEEEEE.

What do you think about it?

-----------EDIT------------

To the anonymous poster or fake name B.F. : I did not post your comment because I'm annoyed by people who will not stand by what they say (and I tried to email your fake address). This is clearly a touchy subject for you and if you'll review what I wrote, I did not "name-call" as you said I did. I simply said it was creepy and it is, in my opinion. Guess what? This is where my opinion goes- on MY blog. Insult my "journalism" if you'd like, but you haven't read any of it. This is a personal blog and I was merely writing on something interesting I found. I wasn't judging you (although I am now). I especially enjoyed your comment about getting back into the kitchen and "making THEM babies" right after the attempt at insulting my writing. Excellent English and my husband certainly got a laugh out of it. I do appreciate your recognition of how good I am at that ;)
