South Toledo Bend State Park

Captain J had a well deserved break from the rotation from Hades this past weekend so we took a trip to a local camping, fishing, hiking, and boating favorite- South Toledo Bend State Park. What a breath of fresh air! We needed a little outdoor time after a year of nothing but flat lands as far as our eyes can see. We are mountains people, but we found that these swamps are neat, too.

Apparently, there are lots of bald eagles in that area of Louisiana, too. Who knew? But we weren't that impressed mainly due to our time spent in Haines, Alaska and the flocks of eagles everywhere we turned. Still, it was cool to see one so close to us here in Louisiana, too...

We did learn all kinds of little nuggets of knowledge on our trip to the visitor center/mini museum. We found that we know a lot about the critters of Louisiana, too. Who knew? Baby K seemed a little more entertained than usual although that could be because he was in the process of peeing on Dad.

After our brief visit to the museum, we took a stroll on a nature hike. I was regretting not stuffing the jogging stroller in the car. 100+ degrees and a baby carrier is not the most pleasant thing in the world. We grabbed the umbrella stroller and stayed on the mostly paved nature walks.

Fun was had by all, I think. Nice little Saturday.
